10-GbE optical xceiver boosts speed, density

Source: | Publishing Date:2008-01-17

SFP+ format module meets optical interface spec IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-SR

Said to bring new levels of speed and high-port density to next-generation networking equipment, the AFBR-700SDZ 10-Gbit/s Ethernet small-form-factor pluggable (SFP+) short-reach optical transceiver features an 850-nm VCSEL-based design with a digital monitoring interface. The device meets optical interface specifications per IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-SR and has a typical power dissipation of 600 mW.

The module uses multimode fiber with coverage up to 300 m. The unit’s two-wire interface protocol and signaling detail are based on SFF-8431, and additional diagnostics are compliant with SFF-8472. The diagnostic information provides the opportunity for predictive failure identification and fault isolation.

Diagnostics include temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, laser average output power, and received input power.
