Motor disconnect switch improves plant-floor safety

Source: | Publishing Date:2008-07-02

Prevents motor burn-out, keeps other processes moving, and guards against mismating

The Square D MD50 motor disconnect switch prevents process interruption by cutting power to a motor if necessary without affecting the main circuit. Compliant with IEC 60309 standards, the switch can eliminate motor burn-out and keep processes moving on a plant floor in applications such as food processing, packaging, automotive assembly, materials handling/conveyance, mining, and petrochemical refining.

The switch’s underlying technology makes it virtually impossible to plug in a power receptacle with different voltage and ampere ratings. A mechanical interlock forces an operator to insert a plug before power can be turned on and to turn power off before the plug can be removed.

Prewired for quick and easy installation, the UL 508-listed motor disconnect switch is a pin-and-sleeve interlocked switch receptacle offered in 20-, 30-, 60-, and 100-A units. The device is housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure featuring a poured-in seamless gasket with brass rivets and stainless-steel fixing screws for corrosive or washdown environments.
