Despite some compelling setbacks in autonomous vehicles, automotive electronics projects are still favored by the industry; it remains a “hotbed” for the continued growth of the semiconductor market.

According to IC Insights, sales of automotive electronics are expected to increase by 7.0% in 2018 and by 6.3% in 2019, the highest growth rate in the six-year semiconductor end-use applications in two years. Figure 1 shows that sales of automotive-related electronic systems are expected to increase from $142 billion in 2017 to $152 billion in 2018, and are expected to increase to $162 billion in 2019.

It is estimated that the global automotive electronics compound annual growth rate will be 6.4% from 2017 to 2021.

In addition, according to the latest survey by IC Insights, from 2017 to 2021, Automotive Electronics is expected to achieve a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4%, again exceeding all other major system categories.

Overall, the automotive sector is expected to account for 9.4% of the global electronic systems market of $1.62 trillion in 2018 (Figure 2), a slight increase from the 9.1% in 2017. Over the years, the automotive sector has only gradually increased, and it is expected to account for 9.9% of global electronic system sales by 2021. It only shows the percentage of marginal revenue in the entire electronic system market. Although the proportion of electronic systems market share in 2018 is small (only larger than the government/military category), it is expected that by 2021, the automotive market will become the fastest growing segment of the semiconductor market.

Focusing on autonomous driving (automatic) vehicles, ADAS, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, vehicle safety, convenience and environmental characteristics, and continued interest in electric vehicles continue to enhance the automotive electronics market, despite this year's impact Some involve a high degree of concern about autonomous vehicles, but these accidents are at least partly attributed to technical errors.

New developments in medium and entry-level models and aftermarket products are more widely seen, and in recent years, the growth of automotive systems has been further enhanced. In the semiconductor world, this is especially good news for analog ICs, MCUs and sensor manufacturers, as most of these automotive systems require a large number of these devices.

It is worth noting that the automotive special-purpose logic category is expected to grow by 29% this year, second only to the DRAM market. It is expected that the automotive-specific simulation market will grow by 14% this year - as a backup camera, blind spot (lane deviation) detector and other "smart The system is forced or otherwise added to more vehicles. At the same time, memory (especially DRAM and flash memory) is becoming increasingly important in the development of new automotive system solutions for use in vehicles.
