Facing declining market share for its mobile handsets, Motorola is reportedly considering selling its plant in Flensburg, Germany. The minister president of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Peter Harry Carstensen, had presented plans to the Motorola management to save the plant, reports daily paper Luebecker Nachrichten.

According to the report, the politician presented a model that would save most jobs with no external company involved. However, no details were provided on the result of the talks.

The plant presently employs only about 900 persons, following major job cuts over the past years. Opened about 10 years ago as then the most modern cellphone manufacturing plant in Europe, the factory had employed up to 3,000 persons during its busiest season. Motorola had received public subsidies in the million dollar range. After relocating its manufacturing processes to China, the Flensburg plant now functions as a logistics and administration center.

The company was not immediately available for a comment
