Tokyo, Japan, December 05 2007¡ªAsahi Kasei EMD Corporation today launched the AK4372 ¨C an ultra-small sized 24-bit DAC with an integrated high output headphone amplifier for portable applications such as cell phones, smart phones and PMPs.

This latest addition to the Audio2go^TM family adds the world's smallest class package, now expected in cell phones and portable devices with integrated music players, to the AK437X-series of DAC's. The 2.5mm X 3.0mm chip scale package is 61% smaller than the QFN package of the AK4370/71.

The AK4372 requires just 6.8mW (DAC+HP, no output) ultra-low power consumption at 1.8V, delivering significant power savings and extending music playback for battery operated equipment. An integrated PLL accepts external BICK and LRCK as clock sources, in addition to cell phone standards and USB system clock frequencies. This makes it easy to synchronize the DAC with an application processor without a master clock.

The AK4372 features integrated analog and digital headphone volume controls. The device also supports external stereo and mono analog inputs, which can be internally mixed, eliminating the need for external switches.

The power management functions, volume control and analogue mixing function are controlled via a flexible three-wire or I²C bus interface. The minimum supply voltage of 1.6V saves power consumption and makes it easy to interface with a processor.
