Freescale 32-bit processors target office storage apps
Chips enable Network Attached Storage with SATA, PCI Express, USB 2.0, and GbE I/O
The MPC8379E, MPC8378E, and MPC8377E 32-bit processors provide technology essential for storage applications with support for SATA, PCI Express, USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, XOR acceleration, and high-performance security. The cost-effective chips are part of the PowerQUICC II Pro product line and target Network Attached Storage (NAS) and systems for small and medium-sized offices.
All devices feature a processor speed of up to 667 MHz, 32-Kbyte instruction and data caches, a 400-MHz DDR2 memory controller, a 32-bit local bus with NAND boot support, USB 2.0, and 10/100/1,000 Ethernet support with RGMII or SGMII interfaces. They require less than 4.4 W and come in thermally-enhanced PBGA packages.
The MPC8379E integrates four SATA controllers that reduce BOM costs for NAS devices, the MPC8378E supports PCI Express and SGMII for wireless access points, and the MPC8377E enables next-generation multifunctional printers with two SATA and two PCI Express controllers.
