Intersil:FET buck regulator extends battery life, saves space
Device allows selection between forced PWM and automatic PWM/PFM modes
The ISL8009 1.5-A synchronous buck integrated FET regulator allows selection between forced PWM mode and automatic PWM/PFM mode, enabling the regulator to maintain up to 95% efficiency in both full-load and light-load conditions. The product features a 1.6-MHz switching frequency, which allows the use of smaller external components. It also has internal current-mode compensation that helps eliminate external components and contributes to fast transient response in overcurrent conditions.
Other features include power-on-reset and enable, to provide output voltage-monitoring and power-sequencing capabilities, which eliminate the need for additional discrete ICs. Additionally, when the device is in PFM mode, the quiescent current drops to 17 µA, making it well suited for-battery powered applications. The device is available in a 2 x 3-mm 8-leaded DFN package.
