NXP solution powers first solar cellphone

China's Hi-Tech Wealth has selected NXP Semiconductor's NexperiaCellular System Solution 5110 for its solar-powered mobile phone, claimed to be the first of its kind to be commercialized.

NXP's system solution optimizes solar charging by enabling ultralow power consumption for longer standby and talk times in the S116, which went into mass production in July this year.

The new solar phone allows users to recharge its batteryin real-time, leveraging any light source, even candle light ¡ªensuring a longer standby time versus any other mobile phone on the market. With Laucent Technology's design capability and NXP's Nexperia Cellular System Solution 5110, the S116 also features a wide range of multimedia applications and connectivity while minimizing power consumption.
