New HT49CA0 Addition to Holtek LCD Series of Devices

Holtek is pleased to announce the release of the new internal remote function HT49CA0, to its LCD type device range. The device contains 2K x 14 of Program Memory and 96 bytes of Data Memory and with its 9 I/O lines and 8 input lines, the device is able to interface to a 72 key scanning keypad. In addition to these standard type I/O lines, the device includes a remote output with a wide range of carrier frequency and duty cycle choices making it suitable for use in a wide range of remote controllers. For this reason the device is also very applicable for use in Universal Remote Controllers or Learning Type Remote Controllers or other home appliance application areas.

For low power timer/counter functions, the HT49CA0includes an internal RTC oscillator which allows the system, when in the low power mode, to allow the timer/counter to continue to operate as well as for the program to continue running at high speed. Additionally the LCD function will also maintain its operation when the system is in the power down mode. The internal LCD function allows users, via configuration options, to select a choice of driver output types to match their specific application LCD panel type. As the way of illuminating the LCD panel is implemented using a RAM mapping method, matching the system with the LCD panel is greatly simplified. With these combined features the device is especially suitable for use in remote control products which an LCD panel such as remote controllers, scales and small home appliances. The HT49CA0can operate with supply voltages as low as 2.0V and with a temperature range of 0¡ãC to +50¡ãC. Also the simple addition of a 12k¦¸ resistor to the OSC1 pin on the device is all that is required to implement the system 4MHz oscillator with a frequency tolerance of ¡À 3%, a feature which greatly simplifies the infra-red remote control circuit as well as reducing the product costs.

As is common with other Holtek microcontrollers, the device, in addition to its high noise immunity specification, also includes a watchdog timer and LVR function, which are a range of features that combine to reduce the possibility of device malfunction in hostile environments. As for packaging the device is supplied in a 52-pin QFP package type.
