Melexis develops a 150 Mbps Fiber Optic MOST transceiver
On March 10 2008 the MOST Cooperation (Media Oriented Systems Transport, the de-facto standard for multimedia and infotainment networking in the automotive industry) published their new MOST Specification Rev. 3.0 enabling the industry to begin to work with the newly defined MOST150 physical layer. Melexis announces development of a single package solution for a 150 Mbps Fiber Optic Transceiver, dedicated for this newly introduced MOST150 physical layer: the MLX75605.
MLX75605 has the following features:
- Compliant to the 150 Mbps MOST physical layer.
- 24 pin SOIC package compatible with lead free SMD processes.
- Integrated ferrule receptacles of both receiver and transmitter pigtails with high optical coupling efficiency.
- Light output is eye safe.
Piet De Pauw, Manager of Melexis’ Business Unit Optical Data Communication, states: “With the introduction of these innovative Fiber Transceivers, we are strengthening Melexis’ leading position in Opto-Electronic IC’s for automotive applications. We are proud we are among the first to develop a 150 Mbps MOST transceiver. In addition, by offering this Fiber Optic Transceiver in a real SMD package, we are offering a solution which reduces significantly the cost of ownership for our customers.”
MLX75605 embeds a 650nm light source, a 150 Mbps Driver IC and a 150 Mbps monolithic Receiver IC. The LED driver IC includes on chip calibration circuitry, allowing the customer to trim the transmitter light output. In this way the light output is within a narrow distribution over the entire temperature range -40C to +95C required for automotive infotainment networks.
The 150 Mbps receiver part consists of a PIN Photo Diode, TIA and End Amplifiers integrated into one single die. This monolithic receiver IC enables best in class immunity against electromagnetic disturbances. MLX75605 is packaged in an innovative package technology, developed for Automotive Optoelectronic IC’s. This 24 pin SOIC package can be handled by conventional SMD pick and place machines and is fully compliant with lead free reflow SMD soldering processes.
The monolithic Receiver IC (MLX75603) as well as the (RC) LED driver IC (MLX75604) are also available in die form.
