Micrel bags multimillion-dollar solar cell deal
MicrelInc. has signed a multimillion-dollar, long-term contract to supply solar cells with an undisclosed commercial solar cell company. The partnership will involve the manufacturing and supply of concentrated solar cells while supporting worldwide environmental efforts and corporate green initiatives.
The company will fabricate the concentrated solar cells at its San Jose site, which has been certified to ISO14001:1996, the International Environmental Management System Standard. This environmental management system strives to ensure regulatory compliance and reduce environmental impact through waste reduction and recycling. Micrel also deploys practices that reduce water and energy consumption, saving considerable operating funds as well as preserving the environment. To ensure compliance with the European directive on the ROHSand other similar regulations, the vast majority of Micrel products may be ordered in Pb-free versions.
"As part of our global citizenship initiative and corporate responsibility programs, Micrel has long supported environmental preservation efforts on a global basis," noted Guy Gandenberger, VP of wafer fab and foundryoperations, Micrel. "This new agreement enables Micrel to provide valuable energy-saving solutions while offsetting current capacity."
