Versatile Class D amps slash solution cost
Minimize the need for external components, while lowering EMI emissions
Suited for all-in-one PCs, LCD/PDP/CRT monitors and TVs, conference phones, MP3 docking stations, notebook PCs, and PC speakers, the MAX9736A/B versatile single-supply, filterless Class D speaker amplifiers are offered as the industry’s lowest-cost solution because each part integrates a spread-spectrum filterless modulator that eliminates the need for costly bulky LC filters, thereby lowering EMI emissions and BOM cost. Features include a single-supply voltage from 8 to 28 V, a PSRR of 67 dB, an efficiency of up to 88% at 12 V (which eliminates the need for a heat sink), and clipping recovery (which eliminates audible Class D overload artifacts).
The parts provide 2 to 8-Ω (or higher) load drive capability. With a pin-selectable stereo/mono mode, they can drive a 4-Ω stereo or 2-Ω mono load with supply voltages up to 12 V.
Comprehensive click-and-pop reduction circuitry eliminates noise coming into and out of shutdown or mute. The devices pass CE EMI limits with 1-m cables by using only a low-cost ferrite bead and a capacitor on each output. Housed in a 32-pin TQFN package, the amps also feature thermal and short-circuit protection. (From $1.49 ea/1,000—available now.)
